Fake Urgency: "Limited time offer" (But the offer never ends)
People see through it. Trust dies.
Real Urgency: "Only 3 implant appointments available in January" (And it's true)
People believe it. They act fast.
Why Real Urgency Works
Fake urgency signals dishonesty. Real urgency signals scarcity.
Humans want what's scarce. It's basic psychology.
If there's only one seat left, you decide faster.
If there's unlimited seats, you can wait.
Types of Real Scarcity
1. Appointment-Based: You only have so many open slots."Only 2 opening available this week"
2. Seasonal: "Winter special ends December 31st" (It actually does)
3. Supply-Based: "Limited stock available" (If true)
4. Deadline-Based: "Price increases January 15th" (And it does)
5. Exclusive-Based: "VIP members only" (If membership is limited)
The Urgency Formula
Examples:
"3 consultations available until Friday"
"Early bird pricing ends January 10"
"Only 1 spot left in our January program"
Specific beats generic.
The Red Flag
If your urgency language is fake, customers know.
"Exclusive offer ending tomorrow" (But it's always ending)
You lose trust. Hard to get back.
Real Urgency From Your Business
Most businesses have real scarcity:
Dentist: Limited appointment slots
Gym: Limited class spots
Specialist: Long waiting list
Aesthetics: Limited treatment days
You don't have to invent urgency. Highlight what's already true.
What to Do This Week
What real scarcity exists in your business?
Write 3 versions of urgency messaging based on that scarcity.
